Three Alternative Ways to Workout on a Basketball Court
Basketball courts are a common sight in the Columbus Ohio area; in fact, we have one right here at The Commons at Olentangy. Whether you’re a skilled basketball player, looking to shoot some hoops with friends or family in a casual setting, or have never played the sport, our basketball court is yours to use. In fact, you can even use the court as a means to do other types of fitness.
As you read this guide, you’ll learn how to take advantage of the basketball courts we provide our residents, even if you have no desire to play the game. Several alternative workouts that can be done on a court are detailed below.
- Cardio – There are few better ways to get your heart pumping than to run suicides and basketball courts, with their clearly marked lines, are perfect for this drill. Furthermore, most basketball facilities have bleachers, which means there are stairs for you to run. Combine these two exercises and you’ll get a great cardio workout in a fairly short period of time.
- Power walking – This low-impact basketball court workout is especially good for older individuals and for those who are recovering from injuries. The area around a basketball court’s playing surface is perfect for walkers. Indoor courts are an ideal place for people in cold-weather climates to continue their walking regimens throughout the winter months.
- Dancing – Basketball courts are similar to many dance floors, making them an awesome place to practice your moves. Some Zumba and ballroom dancing classes even meet at basketball facilities! If the weather is nice and you don’t feel like taking advantage of our indoor fitness center, then heading to the court is a great option. Remember, there’s no wrong way to dance. The important thing is to get moving, but keep in mind that you may need to share the court with those using it for it’s initial purpose.
These are just a few other workouts you can do on a basketball court. There are, of course, dozens of others. You are really only limited by your creativity! Hopefully, however, these options will get you thinking and motivate you to hit the hardwood, even if you aren’t a basketball player.
