Easy Day Trips from Columbus
With busy schedules, especially in the summer, it’s not always easy to take a full week off for vacation. In order to get some R+R but not take too much time off work, quick and easy day trips are always a great way to relax! Thankfully, The Commons at Olentangy are located in a great area of Columbus, making it easier than ever to take some of these day trips!
Cleveland – 2.5 hours
The drive down to Cleveland might be 2.5 hours, but it’s a quick one. Drive down Route 71 and you’ll be there in no time! Once you get to the city, visit the Cleveland Museum of Art, visit the animals at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, do some shopping, and grab lunch at Blue Point Grille.
Hocking Hills – 1 hour
Just an hour south of Columbus, Hocking Hills Start Park has some of the most unusual rock formations in the state. From caves and cliffs to crevasses, spend your day hiking the state park, and don’t forget to take advantage of the kayaking, rock climbing, and zip lining opportunities.
Dayton – 1.25 hours
The small, unasuming city of Dayton is home to the Wright Brothers and is a great place to learn more about the history of flight and to see where it all began. To make the trip even better? Head over to the National Museum of the United States Air Force!
Seneca Caverns – 2 Hours
A massive underground cave system, the Seneca Caverns has miles of passageways and underground rivers that feed the entire region’s water system. It’s still multi-layered with several levels that can be explored. If you’re interested, there are guides that will guide you through the system.
The Wilds, Cumberland – 1.5 hours
The Wilds is a unique, open-air safari just 1.5 hours away from Columbus. The animals roam free and visitors can be taken around on big safari trucks to see these rare and endangered wildlife. The Wilds is a non-profit organization that puts the animals first, no matter what.
