Are You Making These Cleaning Mistakes?
October 24, 2019

It’s no secret that nobody gets excited to spend their free time cleaning. In an attempt to make cleaning quicker and easier, many people try to find short cuts and easier ways of doing things. Unfortunately, what appears to be a simple short cut could actually be a major cleaning mistake. Check out these top 5 most common cleaning mistakes.

Leaving Wet Towels Unattended

After you shower it’s easy to throw a wet towel on the ground or leave the shower curtain bunched up, but you’ll pay the price later. Leaving wet towels and curtains unattended in the bathroom creates a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Once the mildew sets in, you’ll be spending time scrubbing it out later in the laundry room. Get in the habit of hanging wet items up to dry as soon as you use them to avoid extra time during the laundry process.

Paper Clutter

Paper clutter accumulates so fast it’s scary! Avoid piles of paper around your home by switching as much as you can to online and paperless formats. Sale ads, bills, and even coupons can all be found online now. When you do get things in the mail, go through them promptly and either file them to keep or put them in the recycling.

Over-using Cleaning Products

More cleaning product used does not equal quicker cleaning time. In fact, using too much cleaner can actually slow down the cleaning process. The excess product will build-up and create a layer that you’ll have to clean later. That’s right, you’re creating more of a mess while you clean!

Forgetting to Clean the Cleaning Tools

You can’t clean efficiently using dirty products. Periodically disassemble and clean your cleaning tools. This includes your washing machine, dishwasher, and vacuum especially. Replace dirty sponges and mops frequently. Changing out filters and soaking small parts in warm soapy water will do wonders for how effectively they work!

Using the Wrong Products

Read product labels to ensure they’re being used for the right things. Soap scum will need a different cleaner than your granite countertops and different floor surfaces can’t be cleaned with the same floor cleaner either! Using the wrong product will lead to a lot of wasted time and even more wasted time going back over the surface a second time with the correct cleaner.
Most cleaning mistakes are simple things that make a big difference! Take the time to read labels and keep up on cleaning to make it a quick and easy task rather than one that you dread.
